Fakarava, Tuamotu PF We finally leave Tahaa on January 17 after 4 days of torrential rain, heading for the Tuamotu. After a day of sailing close-hauled, the mainsail halyard breaks during the night, and since repairing it is tricky with the swell to climb the mast, we prefer to divert to Moorea, where we arrive at dawn. We finally pick up Perrine's parents in Tahiti the next day, the two islands being 10 miles apart.
While waiting for a favorable weather window to sail to Tikehau in the Tuamotu, we return to anchor in Moorea, in the bay of Vaiare, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and hiking, then in the magnificent Cook Bay. We finally set sail 5 days later with 36 hours of close-hauled sailing, a challenging journey for our unseasoned guests! We spend a short week in Tikehau between swimming with manta rays, walks on the reef, coconut picking, spearfishing, and games on board, as squalls are frequent at this time of year. The crew is thus refreshed to face two nights of close-hauled sailing that allow us to reach the small atoll of Toau, where we stay for 3 days before heading to the famous neighboring Fakarava, a world-renowned diving spot. We are currently in the charming village of Rotoava, where Perrine's parents disembark and Damien's parents join us. We will take advantage of the grandparents' presence to explore the legendary north and south passes of the atoll!
Happy back-to-school to the little Nouméans!
