After a week exploring the different anchorages of Cortes Island, we take advantage of a bit of north wind to reach the city of Nanaimo, 70 miles south on the east coast of Vancouver Island. It had been a very long time since we had anchored in a big city... But civilization has its good sides, it's an opportunity to meet up with friends. First Yann, whom we met in Norway in 2013 and who is taking advantage of the hurricane season in Mexico where he left his boat Josephine to come introduce us to his family. The persistent good weather allows us to enjoy Newcastle Island where we are anchored. Then Dave and Margaret, a Canadian couple we met in Patagonia on their sailboat Heart and Soul, who warmly welcome us into their home. We then head to the Gulf Islands and stop notably at Ganges on Saltspring Island where we meet Tessa and Leo, also seasoned southern sailors. We anchor in front of their house and spend lovely evenings in their company. These past weeks have been rich in encounters! We have been in Victoria for 2 days, a very pleasant city at the south of Vancouver Island, in tourist mode with visits to the Parliament, the British Columbia Museum, and the magnificent Butchart Gardens...
