Today we are on the island of Sanna 66°30N, 12°02E, just 3 nautical miles from the Arctic Circle!
From Alesund, Libertaire stopped at Kalvoeya to stock up on fresh fish and wait for favorable winds.
Then came the charming little island of Ona, inhabited year-round by about forty residents and made famous in Norway by Brigt Jensen's best-seller "Ona Fyr" (The Ona Lighthouse), 20 miles to the north.
We left Ona on Monday evening, and after 20 hours of pleasant sailing close-hauled in a WNW wind, we arrived at the "end of the world" on the uninhabited island of Halten, which has had no year-round residents since 1998. The lengthening days let us fully enjoy the sun, which chased away the clouds and gave us sunsets as long as they were beautiful... Still, the swims remain just as invigorating in water barely above 8°C.
We also took advantage of our stop to inaugurate our crab pot, bought in Bergen. Result: 4 crabs, 2 small ones released, and the 2 big ones in the pot!
