After 24 very pleasant hours of sailing in a light westerly wind, we enter the Saint Malo channel under the sun, to moor Libertaire in the Dugay-Trouin basin, its winter home.
Thus ends our magical Arctic summer. So many firsts in the last 6 months: first iceberg, sailing through ice, in front of glaciers, first aurora borealis, midnight sun, first polar bear, walrus, white whale... But also our first real storm with the mast in the water, sailing in snow, 55 knots at anchor...
From the 47th to the 80th degree North, Libertaire earned our trust with its nautical qualities and sturdiness. Its warm atmosphere and storage capacity allowed us to fully enjoy the journey despite sometimes hostile weather and not worry about supplies. Our stocks of food (even chocolate...), gas, and diesel didn’t need replenishing.
Quelques chiffres pour ces 6 mois :
- 7500 milles GPS
- 280 engine hours, 2 oil changes, a new turbo and heat exchanger elbow...
- 40 nuits en mer
- 82 nights at anchor in 57 different anchorages
- 72 nights in port in 28 different ports
- 1000 litres de gas-oil ( moteur + chauffage )
- 24kg de propane
- 25kg of bread flour, 25kg of pasta, 10kg of rice...
A big thank you to our families and friends for their generosity and support in preparing and carrying out this journey. We truly enjoyed sharing our adventure through this blog and receiving your kind messages at stops.
Now back to work with many beautiful images in our heads, and new polar dreams...
