Bear Island

After hesitating for a few days over the various weather options to set sail towards Bear Island from Tromso, we decide to wait for the NE wind forecast for June 13 and leave the city for an enchanting anchorage at Toftefjorden, passing the 70th parallel North!

One last fishing session for Damien and a sea bath for Perrine, and we leave Norway under the sun, heading to Spitsbergen with a stop at Bear Island! However, there have been no polar bears there for a long time, as the ice has disappeared due to global warming...

54 hours later, after a few tacks in a NE wind gradually turning NW, a few snowflakes welcome us at the anchorage of Kvalrossbukta. We meet Sarah and Blue Benda there.

Sunday, despite an uncomfortable night due to the rolling anchorage, we go ashore to discover lunar and desert landscapes, except for the millions of seabirds (gulls, guillemots, gannets, puffins...) nesting in the cliffs. Eight hours of walking later, we happily reunite with Libertaire and his stove.

The weather conditions appear favorable for a departure tomorrow towards Spitsbergen, with a moderate SW wind forecast!

We will post photos from Longyearbyen where a wifi connection will be possible.

Happy Father's Day!
